Is it also true that HGV drivers can pee against the wheel of their vehicle, and not just taxi drivers?

Don't know if it is legal or not, but I have unfortunetly been sat in a traffic jam and seen a lorry driver take a leak on his wheels!!
Hope he got out of the cab first!
It used to be said that hackney carriage drivers were allowed to do this because it was the only place that female passengers would not see them. A glance at a horse-drawn hackney carriage will show that this is not true.
Along with the bale of hay on the roof, the entitlement to cut off the ears of a Welshman etc, etc, I would be interested if anyone can quote the reference to this law.

OK, I'm being pedantic, but I didn't know HGV drivers were allowed to pee against tax drivers........

Seriously, I remember reading once it was any driver of any vehicle - they could do it against the rear offside wheel, and it was still legal because the original law allowing that has never been repealed.

Allen - as my truck has a vertical stack and the end of the exhaust is about 10 feet up, I'd only be boasting!!!
Its when they pee in a bottle and throw it out the window whats disgusting.
The Town Police Causes Act 1847 banned urinating and defecating in public, but allowed the drivers of Hackney Cabs to urinate against the offside rear wheel providing they had one hand on the cab (for modesty). Don't know about how that translates to HGV's (which I don't thik were around in 1847) although Viscount Simon suggested such in a debate in the House of Lords on 29 November 2005 (http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/ld199 697/ldhansrd/pdvn/lds05/text/51129-11.htm).
