and in previous times it meant tht it was supported by taxes.
I think now it is ring fenced via the Church Commissioners - who about ten years ago, took a bath as the stock brokers say -and lost 200 m. The churchmice became poorer, butI am sure our taxes did not go up as a result.
Mosques - Nil and also the RCs - Nil we pay for our selves. Taxes going to Rome stopped with Praemunire 1361, Supremacy 1536 and Annates 1532 - all dates approx.
thing is those poor proddies have to use a prayer book -remember all those Book of Common Prayer Acts ? which is passed by Parliament, which is of course ful of muslims, rock cakes, porno merchants and adulterers.....but hell you know thats religion for you.

The answers are correct.
But I posted here this week about a vacancy for a Sikh chaplain at an NHS hospital, employed and paid for by the NHS.
The NHS is funded by our taxes, and although the wage would not go to the Sikh temples, I do feel that chaplains should be provided free of charge as part of their devotional, parochial duties.

Parishioners in the C of E certainly and presumably in other denominations are allowed (and encouraged!) to sign Gift Aid forms covering all their donations. This means that 28 pence in the pound given is refunded by the Inland Revenue directly to the parish concerned.
This is no different to any other registered charity like the National Trust, Oxfam or the RSPCA who can do the same

What Ethel says about chaplains most hospitals have full time chaplain and paid higher wage than vicars in C/E I would imagine the same goes for a sikh as would be full time if paid by NHS Roman Catholics visit and hold masses but not known any full time chaplains, I agree that no tax is given to churches BUT they do seem more interested in what is given in stewardship, and as stated the church is wealthy land owners and did lose in stocks and shares, and waste a lot of money in many ways and don't forget a lot of Bishops live in large palaces and have gardeners, drivers, etc and this is all paid for out of the people's collections, Call me mean but I pass plate by for reasons given and would rather help Monastic orders by staying there as a guest places are comfortable and no single supplement and all over the world
