In the Florence Nightingale museum in Lambeth Palace Road there is an artefact which is an entire tortoise shell . It has a metal plaque with with the inscription �Jimmy ..a Ward Pet of The Florence Nightingale Hospital Scutari, 1855 - 1856. It was presented by the Misses Dunn, Grandnieces of one of her nurses.
So there may be some truth in it !
