Merovee medal
3 Answers
I have a medal, 3 cm across with a loop for a chain or ribbon. It has a picture of a Frankish king named Merovee
engraved in it and the letters RL entwined, could be Rene Laleque. Merovee was a frankish king around
450 ad. I've found out quite a bit about him but why would medals be struck of him. Would it be something to do with the Merovingians blood line and the holy grail.
I've had it since I was a child.

The mdailler known as of Mrove, presented at the World Fair of 1867 in Paris, recalls an episode of the High Age, i.e the triumph over king Mrove after his victory against Attila. For the historians of the time, it represented the birth of the nation of France.

I quite like the first answer Octavius except I think this one is a bit small and plain to be presented at a world fair.
The image is of a long haired man with platts and a helmet with small wings on and he wears a band around his neck.
It looks silver plate on brass. The back has no marking.
The lettering on the front is MEROVEE in plain block text, the only other thing is the R L intertwined with what could be a tiny c in the middle but I'm not sure.
I suppose it could have been a cheap copy of the medal you talk about for sale to the public at the show.
