Dedication
2 Answers
Ok. I own a book called "The Cay" by Theodore Taylor. I picked it up off my shelf a few days ago and thought "What the heck, I'll read it". So i have. But, near the front theres a dedication. It says "To Dr. King's dream, which can only come true if the very young know and understand." Anyone know who Dr. King is and why it says "can only come true if and very young know and understand" My first thoughts were that it's something to do with racism and then my friend told me that the "Dr. King" was Martin Luther King". So i think that Dr. King wanted to show people how wrong racism is in the world and he wants the same rights for every colour - it's his dream. Is this correct?

It's been about 25 years since I read the Cay, but from what I remember it's about how two characters with nothing in common - young and old, white and black, rich and poor - are thrown together and through the necessity to survive learn to overcome prejudice and respect each other. So the dedication to MLK's dream iis absolutely bang on! I think the book's still at my mum's - must dig it out for my daughter to read.... thanks pb!
