The Auschwitz Area

We would like to visit Auschwitz, and would like to expand our trip beyone Auschwitz, but do not know interesting places to visit that are nearby. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Krakow - historic city, sometimes called the new Prague.

Wieliczka - near Krakow - for its salt mine

Zakopane - mountains, skiing in the winter. Also in the area rafting in the summer - not sure exactly where

basically Krakow - why not stay there (lovely place) and go to Auschwitz for the day? There are travel cos running trips but you should be able to do it yourself on local transport.

As you're probably aware, Auschwitz is a harrowing experience.

Just want to echo what everone else has said - Krakow is a perfcet base from which you can visit Auschwitz.

Krakow has beautiful architceture, a wonderful main Market Square, a number of galleries and museums, great restaurants and cosy bars.

We have visited 5 times and love the city
