Who is this artist/architect?
6 Answers
I am really struggling to find the name of an architect/artist who produced a number of famous illustrations of imposing art deco buildings in the 1920s or 30s. I have no photos or even part of his name, but the style is similar to that of the 20th Century Fox logo (the one at the beginning of films, carved from stone on a plinth with spotlights).
The images he did that I have seen are of skyscrapers of the time, drawn in grand perspective, strong spotlighting and at night, looking up the buildings from ground-level.
The guy was US American and I seem to recall he had trained to be an architect although wasn't the architect for these particular buildings. They set a style precedent which now are evocative of illustrations of Gotham City (from Batman). I think the palates used were either in greyscale or oranges but I can't be sure as it's been years since I've seen the work.
Any clues would be really, really appreciated as it's doing my nut in!
Cheers,
Andy.
