Does anyone please know of a site that can give me comparitive values between today and past years? I particularily wish to know what the equivalent of �50 000 in 1813 would be today.

My favourite site says:

In 2006, �50000 0s 0d from 1813 is worth

The first site reads low in IMHO

I am used to the twentieth century equation:

1914 �1

1971 �10 decimalisation

now �100

I didnt think the pounds varied much in the C19 which is reflected bythe table, it tends to stick at �40 rather than �100

NB 1890 -1900 the pound deflates and buys more in 1900 than it did in 1890 BUT infant mortality rises during the decade....
