Who was Saint George, What did he do for England and how did we adopt him as our saint? I have just read on AB that he was Turkish, so whats the story behind it all?

It seems he's a saint all over the place !
To add just a little bit extra, St David wasn't Welsh, St Andrew wasn't Scottish, and St Patrick wasn't Irish.

did you know that the flag of st.george was a present from the pope to england.
crimbo is correct, and I apolgise for the error.
A big Dragon killer was St Michael
and St George was only in the second class in this.

AND in the sixties, - along with the child-saints who were canonised because they were [yes I know this is cr+p} said to have been eaten by Jews, such as Little St Hugh of Lincoln, St George and the child saints were decanonised.

That Pope,he could do anything, walk on water probably, and so now he should be referred to as Mr George.
