Does modern life force us to walk faster?

The world is walking faster, the British Council has announced. City living, highly stressed jobs and the general pace of modern life has meant that we walk faster than ever before. Researchers at various city locations around the world have come up with a list of the cities in the world where people walk the fastest. London came in twelfth. Do you feel that modern life forces you to walk faster? Or is this simply another piece of research with dubious accuracy and importance?
