we planted a montana late may this has growen to 10ft,but within the last 2wks the leaves have turned dark red and is begining to wilt

On some montanas the leaves do turn a reddy colour so I don't think you need to worry about that, but the wilting is a different matter. Did you plant the clematis deeper than the original soil level? And has the plant been regularly watered (if you haven't experienced too much rain recently!!!)?
Personally I would prune off the wilted stems providing there aren't too many of them, and feed the plant with some high potash fertilizer (rose or tomato food is high in potash) according to the instructions on the packet.
It sounds as though the plant has continued growing but isn't yet properly established, so perhaps needs a bit of encouragement.
