3 Answers
Hi ive always wanted to play the classical piano ever since i was a kid!! I just love Chopin and Liszt. Its still one of my burning passions especially after the film 'The Pianist' and the genius that is Matt Bellamy!! However i no longer have a piano in the house!! On average how much are piano lessons? Do you think it is absolutely essential to have a piano to learn it?? I wouldnt say i was a beginner by no means!! Would a fold away synthesiser do for now?

Although the electrics have all sorts of gadgets like weighted action, touch sensitive keys and even sustain pedals, the feel is never the same.

You would need a keyboard of some description as most of the technique is based in finger technique which you will struggle without a keyboard of sorts! With regards to lessons - you could try learning at home. Sounds daft, but my son wanted to learn the piano and our local teachers were expensive and miles away! He bought an online training package called Rocket Piano (www.learnpianotoday.info) and although I was initially skeptical, he has learned theory and technique and is now really good!
