Does anybody know what the world record is for a house spider?

I have just killed one and leg to leg measures 12.3cm. Honestly it is massive.

And I don't want any person telling me it was wrong to kill it. The bu66er deserved to die!!!

I don't know what the record size is but that sounds enormous and petrifying !!!
When I lived in Australia it was common for me to have a house spider known as a Huntsman and they are on a same size as a Tarantula. They are scary and you can almost die on the spot as it appears .....shudder ...:-)
If I'd have found that I think I genuinely would have died through fright. That sounds like more than a spider!
I knew I shouldn't have opened that.

Shudders

(You shouldn't have killed it thought. Big tough man like you should have taken it outside)

It needed to die. It has been annoying me for a few nights now.

jno, they are tarantulas, not the common house spider!!!

Although with global warming we would probably have then in UK by 2020.
what is it that other people don't like about spiders? for me it's the way their legs look, they can be dead and still wouldn't want to go anywhere near it because it's legs are still creepy!
tarantulas go inside, there was one in that James Bond movie
oh and there was this one the army found in Iraq (I believe the photo is quite genuine). I know, desert spiders don't count. Pretty big, though

Ah the infamous camel spider. In reality about the size of a house spider and as slow as a tortoise!
Did that thing not stand in as a body double on Aliens
the spiders can do about 10mph; tortoises about a fifth of a mile in the same time. They're about 6 inches across, which is larger (I hope) than any spiders in my house.

Aaaw, ShadowMan - why'd you have to kill it? (I know what you said, but I couldn't resist!!)
12.3 cm??????????? What have you been feeding it? Hamsters? im so glad that wasnt in my house or i wouldve had a stroke!!!

Apparently theres a huge one in my garage......I now park my car out the front
13cm?!!!!!! Are you freaking kidding me?? You said mm last time!
The body size is in mm and the leg span is in cm, actually I double checked that reference and 75mm or 7.5cm for leg span is a much more realistic figure
Sounding by the size of it, I think it's mate found it's way into my house last Friday morning.
I was seriously freaked out by the size if it.
I had panic attacks all day just thinking about that spider.
Unable to breath after seeing it, had to get Hubby to deal with it.
Even he could not believe it's size.
I know you said you didnt want anyone saying you were wrong to kill it, but why did it deserve to die, what harm was it doing????? Surely it would be more frightened of you than you were of it. Sorry, had to ask as I dont know why people are scared of spiders, if they are not poisonous, they cant do you any harm?
Spiders are just AWESOME!! The bigger the better. You will never catch me holding one though!!
Love 'em!! My son's got a huge spider living above his bed & now he wants to know what to feed it!!
