WWII Spitfire cockpits

Up untill the MKV there are two cilidrical objects behind the pilots headrest. Does anyone know what these were? Most model aircraft don't seem to include them. Looking at photos of later MKIX's these cilinders seem to have disapeared.....was that in fact the case?

If you mean the ones included in this model, http://hsfeatures.com/spitfiremkibg_1.htm , I would say they represent the pilot oxygen cylinders in the original MKVc, although finding an actual picture of an actual airplane is difficult...

Thanks clanad, I think that they had something to do with pilot oxygen too, but the form changes in different models and I can't find out when and where these changes took place. In the beautiful model exposed in the link you sent, the object I'm refering to looks like a "hat box" behind the headrest, while in later models there are two distinct cylinders.

Thanks to all who answered, I appreceate your kindess.
However having done some further reserch, I've dicovered that the hat box shaped cylinder behind the pilot's seat is in fact a voltage regulator found on earlier models of MK.I, MK.V. and MK.IX. This later changed to the thin two cylinder set up, and this is were i'm not sure if they were still voltage regulators or had something to do with oxygen supply
