I always thought it was scotch. As in Highlander "I'm Connor MacLeod of The Clan MacLeod"
I think you'll find that's "Connor McLeod of the clan Hollywood"

My history of Gaelic and Erse nomenclatures is indeed rather weak, but are you certain ALL scotch names come from Ireland?

i.e Gordon, Sutherland, Boyd, Dougal to name but a few of many.

Most Scots names are Irish
The others are mostly Picts.(or maybe Norse!)
I think after the Scots took over,one word assimilation, in a big way.
I think in the old days every irish family must have had their own personal name.

hello, Connor is an irish name along with variants Conner,Connors, O Connor etc. It comes from the Irish Gaelic Conchobhair or Conchobhar. Conchobar was the king of Connacht.
