There's an excellant book called "The Washing of the spears, the rise and fall of the Zulu Nation" by a guy called Donald. R. Morris. Well worth the read if you doing serious research on this subject.

Morris is very good but is also rather weighty. He deals with the whole history of the Zulu nation which - although gives an excellent context - might be a bit overwhelming if just doing the War.

I reccomend Adrian Greaves' Crossing the Buffalo. Gives an excellent potted history of British presence in South Africa and of the Zulus (though obviously in less detail). Also gives great coverage to all three columns and both invasions, the aftermath of the war, and makes a commendable effort to give as much perspective from both sides as existing evidence allows. And is also fantastically written to cap it all off.

Greaves has written another book on Rorke's Drift too but I haven't read it. Morris is still very good though, I don't want to badmouth him.
