Village cricket match short story

Does anyone know who wrote a short story about a village cricket match? I remember it being read to us one rainy day way back in prep school. it dealt with the laziness of summer . anyhelp would be greatly appreciated.

"England, their England" by A G MacDonell has an account of a village cricket match which is very funny if old fashioned.

I wonder if its from Dicken's The Pickwick Paperd. Chapter seven describes the cricket match between Dingley Dell and Muggleton.

Hugh De Selincourt also wrote several short stories which were published together under the title "The Game of the Season", but do get hold of a copy of "the Cricket Match" as well because it is a wonderful book.
