Does anyone know who wrote a short story about a village cricket match? I remember it being read to us one rainy day way back in prep school. it dealt with the laziness of summer . anyhelp would be greatly appreciated.
England, Their England is also a novel: USOldWet said quite specifically that he/she wanted information on a short story - althogh E,TE is an exceptionally funny book.
I may have been mistaken about it being a short story. It could have been a chapter from a novel. Thank you all for your responses.....now if I can only find copies of these books here in the US.
Hugh De Selincourt also wrote several short stories which were published together under the title "The Game of the Season", but do get hold of a copy of "the Cricket Match" as well because it is a wonderful book.
Thanks everyone for your answers. It is the Chapter from England, Their England that I was looking for!
Ah, life is so very different now.
I can see the Blacksmith huffing and puffing coming over the slope to bowl!
