support for troops in iraq
33 Answers
Why should it be expected that all UK residents should support our "war effort" in Iraq? I was in discussion with a neighbour a couple of days, when he was voicing his support for the Remembrance Sunday proceedings. I remarked, "They should bring the troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan". He concurred with this but added, "They have no choice". Is that correct? I was of the opinion that conscription had ended in this country and therefore if one does not agree with the "war", just pack it in or become a conscientious objector. Certainly, even for the religious ones among us, nobody can believe that the poor devils who died are aware of the "ceremony" at the cenotaph. Watching the Royals and the political leaders in the forefront, displaying their "well earned gongs", is a bit of a joke. There will be those among you who will remember Tony Martin, the gentleman who lived in a secluded house in Norfolk, who, in 2001 shot at a couple of intruders, killing one of them. He was convicted of murder, which caused a bit of an uproar with the general public in the UK and some other parts of the world. He served 18 months in prison when his conviction was reduced to "Manslaughter". Most in the country said, "They broke in and they deserved what they got!!". What I want to know is, "What is the vast difference between that case and our unlawful entry into Iraq?" Poor old Saddam Hussein. If he had still been in power, there would be no trouble with the Kurds in the north or the Shi'ites in Iran.!!!

The vast difference between Tony Martin and our 'unlawful' entry into Iraq is:
Tony Martin is just one person - you can't be taking things into your own hands y'know
The Government can more or less do what they want, if we don't like it we have to vote them out.

First of all it is not an illegal war. That is your opinion. If it were illegal you as even a civilian would have the power to arrest a soldier who has been there. Are you going to??
Secondly, if you are referring indirectly to WOMD's and the fact they have not be found, so what? Politicians lie all the time, that's what they do. The true facts are thabkfully kept with in the secret services.
Thirdly, the oil flow is worth fighting for if WOMDs were a complete hoax. People who moan about the war are often the first to moan about increased EVERYTHING due to oil prices. And I mean everything.
Fourthly, soldiers can not choose where to fight. Yes they choose to sign up, but not where they are sent. Do you oppose the millions of hours our armed services do on peace enyoys, illegal drug tarfficking, fighting drug lords atr sea, rescue services all round the world, protecting the crown and its subjects from filth like the Argies who did infact illegally invade The Falklands.
If you do not support our boys, you do not support the country. And if you don't support the country, then you have no place in society and should bu66er off to a marxist loving kibbutz helping single parent lesbian mothers save the rainforest whilst smoking some weird old tobacco from a muslim made hubbly bubbly.

Interesting few responses. Correction though. It is not MY opinion that the entry into Iraq was illegal, it is fact. Of course, the oil is important .... that was one of the main reasons for the invasion. I did vote but it would not make much difference who was in ..... the others would be even more determined to maintain the status quo. With Saddam Hussein in power there could quite possibly have been thousands more Kurds but I suppose you are aware of how many Iraqis .... on the most conservative of estimates ... have died as a direct result of the coalition's interference. There were no WOMD's. Saddam was supposed to be a threat to all his neighbours but strangely the majority of his direct neighbours were against the war. Let's not hear about the Iraqi Government wanting us to be in their country. We will be hearing next that Iraq has a democratically elected government or that the US security companies operating in Iraq are not a law unto themselves.
it is all to do with oil at the end of the day ,but look at this country what a bloody mess, when you cant walk down the street , this country has listened to the us for too long politiciens are lineing there own pockets making a mint , puting there two fingers up to the people , and saying im alright jack , whatever party it all about whats in i for me
That goes without saying .... about the two fingers. It was and is certainly about oil but the principal reason for our incursion was because it was felt that Israel was under threat. Similarly, with Iran, we will soon be in the mire!! It's OK for Israel to have the "New killer" ... as Bush describes Nuclear weapon.
I fail to see what this debate is about??
Why at we at war with terror?
Israel?
Oil?
WOMD's?
We are at war because most of the middle east is run by despotic madmen who given the opportunity will destroy the west whether US of A pulls the aide on Israel or not.
This is further fuelled by the said countries being run by an incedibly insecure and vicious religion which gets in to the bad civilian lives, where their so called comic of a bible tells people to kill westerners.
I have no issue with Israel having nukes or not. They had them in the first Gulf war. In the face of numerous Scud attacjs on their civilian population did they respond? No.
In the face of constant aggression from Palestine, do they respond with a small atom bomb? No!
In the face of the Iranian head saying he wants to wipe Israel out, did they respond? No!
Why?
Because Israel is a peaceful country who on the whole are governed by a peacful religion.
