Wedding readings from the old testament.
10 Answers
Hello!
I've been asked to do a reading at a friends wedding in June. I thought this would be fairly easy as there are plenty I like, quite romantic, but they are all in the new testament. My friend recently had a meeting with the priest who has said it must be from the old testament or non-gospel from the new testament. What does that even mean? And why the stipulation? Its a catholic church by the way.
Many thanks.

1 Corinthians 13 - Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.......So faith, hope love abide......but the greatest of these is love.
I dunno jake, whats wrong with telling your betrothed that their temples are like pomegranates within their hair, and they have teeth like a flock of sheep?
I found the whole My beloved put in his hand by the hole of the door, and my bowels were moved for him quite romantic!
Honestly, youth of today!

Hi lollyone - I am not a catholic so I am afraid I cannot be sure what they mean about 'non-gospel' New Testament - but I agree with poohshunny in that I think to most Christians the gospels are simply the first four books of the New Testament - Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. This would leave open to you for your reading most of the passages you find romantic, I would say.
