My brother inlaw is driving me mad and he doesnt believe anything was invented other than from the british inventors. If someone knows of anything that can help my debate i would be very happy. His answer allways comes back too. well all the new inventions developed from the british. please someone tell me he is not right!!! Thanks for any answers..
I can't think of anything much that was invented by the British except those windup radios. But real radio was invented by Marconi, an Italian. Flying machines were invented by Americans, or possibly a New Zealander. Gunpowder was invented by the Chinese... and so on.
more i need all the answers next time they visit.. he still reckons the british discovered the basis of it all. sorry my grammer isnt good.. thanks everyone
well it was someone Scottish (i think ) who invented the tv and penicillian was discovered by Alexander Fleming who again was British. Other than that i can't come up with anything else.
Somewhat apocryphal, but within the last decade I seem to recall mention of some Japanese study that attributed over 80% of items in everyday use as having been invented by Brits.
Actually, your brother-in-law's quite wrong, tiara.
For a start, the French Louis Braille invented braille printing.
Another French "inventor" was the sculptor Bartholdi who made the Statue of Liberty.
There are quite a few non-British inventors if your brother-in-law takes a good look round.
Penicillin wasn't discovered by Fleming but by a French student named Duchesny. Because of his age and that he was a student he was overlooked and Fleming was given credit. Some years after Fleming recieved the Nobel prize, Duchesny was eventually credited as being the first person to discover Penicillin.
