Iceni Celtic Mask
My 8 year old daughter has been asked to recreate an Iceni (Celtic) warrior mask. The image she has been given is of a red faced warrior. I've searched the internet but the only example I can find is the same image (see www.legion-fourteen.com/celtic142.htm). Surely the internet has other examples! Can anyone help?

The Iceni were led by Boudicca - Boadicea - and sacked Roman Colchester around AD 60 I think
As far as I know there arent any images of what the ancient Brits looked like
so she yr 8 yr old can make one up basically
that is it an exercise in imagination rather than history
HOWEVER
history is always rewriting it self
and there is a statue called the Dying Gladiator
but this has been reprocessed
and people have noticed the bow and arrows at his feet, his sandals and the torque around his neck.
The torque is like a heavy bangle - sort of U shaped and you see them in museum cases and you think 'er' or 'ugh where do they go?'
and so the Dying Gladiator is now thought to be the Dying Celtic Warrior
The only thing is - they didnt wear anything else, besides what I have listed. Yup - nothing - and this is not something you are going to share with an eight year old
so its back to her imagination....
Some more images here. The helmet you have was probably more ceremonial than for battle though.
