Thanks TT - I started by getting a big sheet of paper and writing down everything I knew already. Then try and start finding people you already know the names on on the 1901 census ..... failing this look for a birth you might know of around 1920 - ish ..... this should give you the mother's maiden name, so then you can look for the marriage of these parents to confirm the forenames ..... once you have these, these 2 individuals SHOULD be on the 1901 census ............... For a great, free place to store your findings you can create a website at www.tribalpages.com (it only costs you to upgrade it later if you want to add photos etc ..... and I think it was 18 for the year (which is cheaper than buying a CD Rom software version plus it means you can make your tree available on line when you start to find other people looking for the same people as you ................ Do let me know if I can help you, as I have had to learn as I go along, so anything I can do to make it earlier for someone else I am happy to do - it can be frustrating at time, but just when I think I have finished with mine, something else pops up ............... keep in touch TT
Good luck
