Watching Dragon's Den last night there was an invention to prevent petrol being put into a diesel driven vehicle, made me wonder why there is not such a thing for the reverse (diesel in Petrol driven car). Someone said that the spout on a diesel pump won't go into the filler of a petrol car. Is this true? or is it that diesel in a petrol car is not as bad as Petrol in a diesel?

thats correct, diesel nozzle is larger , i think it possibly goes back to commercial vehicles as there tanks are much much larger they need to fill them quicker..
some lorry pump nozzles are bigger still..

Yes as you had heard the spout on a diesel pump is larger in diameter so won't fit in to the filler of a petrol car

Diesel in a petrol car is not normally a terminal death for the engine either. More like putting too much olive oil dressing on your salad.
