This may be a silly question - but have always wondered so .....
What would happen if I decided not to follow the rule of law.
By that I am not talking about murdering anyone or anything bad. But what if I decided I just did not want to pay tax, recieve anything from the government, do jury duty, etc, etc, etc.
In other words what if I decided I did not want to be British and be ruled by the British parliment.
Could I set up my own country (say for example) inside my garden fence.
If I am no longer British (I would hand back my passport) could I be arrested by the "foriegn power" inside my own country of AliLand
But, of course, you will still be prosecuted if you do not pay taxes due, ignore official documents etc.
You could be arrested inside your "homeland" if you commit any arrestable offences because the UK government will not recognise your unilateral decalaration of independence.
In short, you cannot simply "opt out" of your obligations and responsibilities. But neither can the state opt out of its obligations towards you.
Sounds attractive at first but it has its drawbacks.
You would still be a UK resident. You won't be able to avoid tax if you get paid work, and you have to pay VAT on some items unless you steal them/beg them or go without. You don't have to take up benefits. You would be expected to abide by the UK laws and could be prosecuted for offences commited here. You will be subject to civil actions too.
How are you planning to live this life?
