He's known better in England as King Canute. Knut is the Norse spelling.
It's unfortunate that the current spelling used in British history books is Cnut. Causes endless problems when misspelt in homework.
He was the last of the Danish rulers of England, early 1000's.

Wasn't Ethelred The Unready called so because he was "Unready" for Cnut???

Aethelred the Unready was in fact 'un-rede' (ill advised).
