I've been looking for the name of an explorer whose potted biography was circuated around three months ago.
From memory, (with all its frailties), he was an army officer, irascible, quarelsome, claimed credit for other's efforts, evaded blame, explored part of W Africa. Alive 1780-1880???

Walter Oudney, Dixon Denham or Hugh Clapperton?
Question Author
Thanks In a Pickle. None of these, but I'm working my way through a list of Explorers presented by both Wikipedia and ODNB.

Question Author
Thanks Octavius. Walter Oudney is my quarry.
