My grandfather was awarded the British Medal, Victory Medal and 1914-1915 Star. However against the first two medals on the Medals Record Card is "Retd (1743 K.R 1912. " Can anyone help me to find out if this means the medals were returned and what 1743 of Kings Regulations was. Many thanks

It appears that the medals were never claimed by your grandfather (or next of kin).

The King's Regulations and Orders for the Army 1912.

General Instructions

1734: "Medals which, at the end of 10 years, still remain unclaimed, will be sent to the India Office (if granted for Indian Service), or to the deputy director of ordnance stores, Royal Dockyard (Medal Branch), Woolwich (if granted for other service) to be broken up."

Many thanks Kempie, I am relieved. I thought the medals might have been rescinded for bad behaviour. He was a bit of a rogue!
