could you please tell me the prices in 1938 for:
- a house
- a car
- a newspaper
- a pint of milk
- the average earnings per week / month

When I started work in 1939 at the age of 14 a packet of
five woodbine cigarettes cost 2d old money and a newspaper I think was 1d
My employer a builder paid his workmen one shilling and sixpence up to two shillings per hour depending on there
trade. That would be 7.5p and 10p now
I think an average house was �3OO
