Anyone else going to watch the programme on Channel 4 about the sinking of the French fleet as ordered by Churchill in WW2?
I'm going to record it, I feel it will take a lot to convince me that he was wrong to do it.

I suppose he could have not ordered it and let those ships augment the German fleet.

My thoughts exactly, showed the world we meant business.
I remember the relevant episode in the old TV series 'The Valiant Years' (Why is this never repeated, by the way?) in which Churchill claimed that the parents of a French sailor killed at Oran insisted that his funeral be conducted with both the French tricolour and the British White Ensign on the coffin.

I thought this was an interesting show, and it told me a few things from the French perspective that I had'nt heard of.
2 questions arose for me from this show why did'nt the French fleet join the British in the fight against Germany to liberate France (thus rejecting Vichy) and why did'nt the Germans attempt to comandeer the fleet earlier?
I still thought we had no choice, I wonder how many air raids the French made on the Germans in the war for France?
Ok three questions.....
