This is a pure guess - he's a stunt man, and she saw him in a movie scene at a cinema, and returned home ... am I right?

Was he bungee jumping? How he got home before her I dont know but perhaps she went shopping!!!!

Both correct, or she had been watching him at work. Or the house was downstream of where he safely jumped in.

All the above are possible. But note that there is no timescale given. So the first statement may take place 20 years before the second. He could have had quite a long convalescence. The use of him in the second sentence suggests it is the same husband, though as another long-term possibility is that she has remarried/is polygamous.
