Revelation 17 and 18 describe the woman riding the beast.
The subject of Dave Hunts book by the same title.
Is it not unfair on Bible based
Christianity to equate it with what is generally accepted as Christianity, but is in fact a pagan cult called Roman Catholicism?
References to infallibility are more readily associated with popery rather than the truths of the Bible that have stood the test of time.
And .... hello Waldo, Wiz, Nim, Luna, Mibs, China, and all of my old friends and sparring partners. Keep well.

Hi Icey, long time no post - been out of it for a while, life dealt me a poor hand.
must be the beast of burden

jagger picked up on it rather sharpishly lol
Sorry to hear that. Haven't been too great myself, but you soldier on don't you? Are you feeling any better?
Question Author
Apart from being treated for depression, my marriage breaking up, counselling for drink, and Crohns disease, everything is swell.
The Lord Himself sustains me through these trials!

Signing off now - the call of the Yard in the morning.
Goodnight.
Oh hun.....I didn't know. Words are no good at a time like this are they, but you WILL get through it all. Best of luck. x
Just as a matter of interest Theland where do you think Roman Catholicism started.

Do you accept Peter? If not do you oppose Christs very endorsement "You are the rock on which I will build my Church"?

If so where do you think it all went wrong?
Your question needs some deciphering, As for the rest, I'll email you, Theland.
Naomi, Theland did you meet on here?

If so I thinks its ace!!! the differences you have on this site are quite legendary but when it comes down to it you can tell that you quite like each other!

no real point to this i just think its sweet!
Sorry to hear about your trails and tribulations, Theland, much as I don't believe them for a second, I do hope your beliefs will help you to get through them.

As for your "question", your claims of Biblical infalibility are exactly as credible as KeyPlus's claims of Koranic infalibility, which is to say that they are both as credible as the Papal claims you acknowledge to be bogus.

Babylon and the ***** thereof are interpretted by the vast majority of biblical scholars to refer to the Roman Empire; only a subset of Protestant fundies, with whom Dave Hunt appears to be aligned, believe it refer to the Roman Catholic church.

As for it being unfair, firstly, I don't believe that people do feel Roman Catholicism is what is generally accepted as Christianity; it's well known it's just one flavour of it, and secondly, do you think it's fair that a pagan cult called Roman Catholicism gets equated with fundamentalist Christianity?
Theland, But your religion originated from the cult you call pagan, so where does that leave you? And what are these truths of the bible that have stood the test of time? I don't see them. I haven't read the book you're talking about, so it's difficult to make an informed judgement, but it seems to me that when it comes to demonising another belief system, all religions are as guilty, and as hateful, as each other. You're all right, aren't you?

Sherman, Theland and I have never actually met, but yes, we did meet on here. I think all of us who have been here for years know and like each other as well as people who've never met can. We are all civilised and intelligent enough to argue our case and occasionally sling a few well-aimed custard pies, but nevertheless, still care about each other.

I haven't heard from Theland, but I know he panics and over-reacts to every personal situation (which makes me wonder just how comforting his religion really is to him, but that's beside the point). I've tried for years to encourage him to look at his problems squarely, and to put things into their proper perspective, because he lurches from one perceived disaster to the next, always seeing his glass as half empty, but nothing has ever been as bad as he thinks, or says, it is (which is possibly why Waldo says he doesn't believe him - but I could be wrong). And Theland, if you're reading this, learn from history, and take note!
Thanks for coming back Naomi. It just makes me think what you are all like in person. Would love an official gathering one day just to see if you are as I imagine!

I mean I dont even know how old everyone is but I kinda have a picture in my head!

Waldo is an an old Prefoeesor like out of cluedo! I can just see him as an old fashioned looking teacher or lecturer.

Naomi is a sweet old lady with her original sharp teeth when she needs them!!!!!

Jake the peg is relatively youngish and i cant quite decide what he does for a living - probably IT or is a people manager?
p.s no offence is meant to anyone!
anywhere close?
Close, I work in a technical capacity for a large anti-virus company. Don't know what youngish counts as.

My son has just finished his GCSEs
Jake well I reckon that most people on this site are fairly old compared to me, im 27
so i reckon waldo is in late 60's and naoimi is old as well!(compared to me!!)

so i had you as 39-45 bracket?

again please dont take offence just how I imagine you all!!
Haaaa! Gosh, even though you're right in thinking I am considerably older than you, I never imagined for a moment that anyone saw me as a 'sweet old lady'. How funny! I do have my original teeth though, so you're right there too.

I saw you, Sherman, as being a bit younger than you are, and working in a clerical position. Jake I see in his mid 40s, and I guessed his line of work pretty accurately. Waldo I put in his mid 30s, so nowhere near as old as you have placed him, and I think he could be an architect or something like that.

It's fascinating to know what impression others have gained from what we write here, and it's fun finding out, but I think we'd all be in for quite a surprise if your suggested gathering ever happened. Thanks for cheering the place up a bit, Sherman. You've really made me laugh - and no offence taken.
haha glad you seen it as fun although the bit where you seen me as younger i took offence to!!!! -I look about 20-23 and have had it my whole life how young i look for my age so you struck a nerve there!!!!
you also never said how old you were (just a ball park figure is needed!)

Oh oh also sorry to Theland for hijacking his post and I do wish you that you feel better soon.

For me no-one as learned as waldo or yourself could be young so yes am afraid you are both in 60's 70's to me!

Not sure your career- prob something like a nurse or def something working with people anyway or helping people and my job your close but im more of a salesman than anything else.

Well I have another few months in your bracket at least Sherman :c)

All this Moon landing anniversary stuff isn't helping - when you just about remember it the first time around.

Kids asking you things like "So who was Margaret Thatcher?" and "What does it mean to wind a watch?"
Jake think i got you pegged!!!!! hahahaha(I am a genius)

there was a thing on bbc about a kid who was given a walkman instead of an ipod to use for a week and he didnt realise that the tape had 2 sides!!!! oh my goodness i felt old reading that!!!!

am now anxiously awaiting waldos response to this..... hope he wont be too offended!

Naomi when i said you had original teeth, I also said sharp teeth! you can bite when you need to!
as a metaphor i would say like when the wolf from little red riding hood puts on the grandmas clothes. So your sweet and nice but if you need to you can bite someones head(keyplus!!!) off

again i'm trying not to offend
