Double entry in birth register
4 Answers
Hi All
I am researching my family tree and found one relative whos birth was registered in the 3rd quarter 1942 and then again as a birth in the forth quarter of 1963. The mother had dual sir names ..what reason do you think there would be a double entry so far away?? Registering a name change perhaps ??? Adpotion Or is it jst impossible??
Thanks
Remy

at 21 there would be no adoption. Any name change would be by deed poll and not in the gro index. As VHG says, it could be a totally different person, what do you mean by 'dual surnames?' was it double barrelled or did she marry twice?

Thanks for info..I am taking another look...although the double barrel bit could be her name and then the fathers ..(i dont believe they were married at this time) I guess i really need to get copies of the birth certs....also I am aware that divorce was very difficult to come by years ago...

If a child's birth is registered but the parents are not legally married, at a later stage if they do marry eachother, they can return to the register office within the lifetime of the child and have the birth legitimised, i am not familiar enough with this process to knwo 100% what paper trail it leaves and how the amendment is recorded.
