and what came first the name liver bird or the place liverpool??

and are they / were they real birds??

I always find a search in Google like "liver birds wiki" will be a great help.

It would have found the link above.
There are 2 Liver Birds on the Liver building. They are unique, a mythical bird. If they ever go then Liverpool will no longer exist.

They have been replaced by Crows..aka Alex Curran and Noleen Rooney
Liverpool must have come first. It was founded as a borough in 1207, long before the first bird was shown on its crest [see the wiki]. The name Liverpool itself appears to contain a reference to 'laver' a form of seaweed. The place-name would therefore mean 'the pool [ apparently a reference to a tidal creek there] where seaweed is '
