Is there any footage of Hitler talking like a normal person, i.e. not putting on the whole demagogic act? I've never seen any.

One of his bidy guards secretly taped Hitler (it's never been made clear why) in his state railway carriage talking to the king of Romania (if memory serves) were he laments the sudden appearance of hundreds of Soviet tanks.

I suppose it's much like today: there's plenty of film of Tony Blair doing official stuff, but if there's any private, off-duty film (that isn't posed for propaganda purposes), I've never seen it and probably never will. Considering people didn't film everything with their phones in the 1930s, I guess it's remarkable that there's any private film at all.

There is a common desire amongst the media and academics to describe Hitler as a maniacal lunatic who spent his time running about like a maniacal lunatic, it's untrue.
Hitler's psycopathy was far more complex than that.
Ian Kershaw has written a very authoritive book on Hitler in two volumes ("Hubris" and "Nemesis") also you should look for the B.B.C documentries "The Nazis A Warning From History" and "Hitler, The Nazis And The Final Solution" avoid the film starring Robert Carlyle "Hitler, The Rise Of Evill" as it's cack.
Hitler inspired great loyalty in his acolytes, Reinhard Spitzy when asked if Hitler turned up at his door tomorrow knowing now what he'd done, what would he say?
Without hesitation he clicked his heels and said "mein Fuhrer, what have you done? Kvik come with me and I'll hide you in the mountains" both he and Hermann Doerring (Hitler's valet at the obers alts berg) said the same thing, "because with me Hitler was alright."
He loved his mother dearly and changed the date of mother's day in Germany to her birthday.
I'm not a Hitlerist his politics were appalling, but you will read and see a lot of nonsense written about him on a personal level.

LOL@ jno's mobile phone films...! ...and everton's "kvik come with me". Yes I'm sure he was complex. (Which makes it all even more perverted than if he hadn't been.) I think I was basically just wondering about what his ambitions in "building his trademark" were. What he wanted the world to see, and what NOT.
actually, it seems the mobile is 100 years old

but I can't see a camera in that one anywhere.
123everton, well said. It's not just Germans who sometimes like to see Hitler as mad, and therefore not typical of them at all; it's everyone. We'd do better to remember that he was human like anyone else and that we may all have a small share of his flaws.

Love that phone, jno.
Yup, Adolf was a man. I like this poem by Leonard Cohen, on another one of the Adolfs.
ALL THERE IS TO KNOW ABOUT ADOLF EICHMANN
EYES - Medium
HAIR - Medium
WEIGHT - Medium
HEIGHT - Medium
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES - None
NUMBER OF FINGERS - Ten
NUMBER OF TOES - Ten
INTELLIGENCE - Medium
What did you expect?
Talons?
Oversize incisors?
Green saliva?
Madness?
