buried treasure

if i found somthing valuable buried (using a metal dectector) would i legally be able to keep it and sell it , or does it belong to whoever owns the land ..or does  the national trust own it?

Check whether there are any differences in the law between Scotland and the rest of the UK (I assume that you are in the UK).

The general law is you must have permission to use a metal detector on private land, and then with this given anything found must be shown to the owner. Farmer's etc. are usually pretty good about letting you keep your finds.

Don't even think of digging on land belonging to the National Trust......

if your not on public property you have no business looking there. on the other hand if you are on public property, FINDERS KEEPERS. why should someone else benefit from your discovery.
