Quite rightly Hitler and the Nazis get a lot of critisism about how they treated the Jews in World War 2, but what about how Russia have treated the Jews in the past.

I watched a repeat of Coast today on BBC2 about how Lithuanian Jews were driven out of the country in Victorian times by their treatment by Russia. I also saw an epsiode of "Who do you think you are" once which also talked about the treatment of the Jews by Russia.

It seems the treatment of Jews by Russia in history is almost forgotten.

Why did the Russians treat the Jews so badly?

Come to that, why have the Jews been treated so badly all over Europe (I remember Mahler, the composor and conductor, suffered from anti Jewish treatment during his life).

I read his post, ummmm, and it was tantamount to an announcement in that I've never read a post like that from him before.....................I was surprised that a chap who prides himself on his education, intellect and life experiences can hold such a narrow and, frankly, ridiculous point of view...................
jack, it wasn't wasted on you then.

I was just tying to save him from himself, lol!
*trying, even
I read the thread again and noticed that one of my replies was that I'm answering after the answers had been removed.

I still believe that everyone should have their opinion and posts should stay (except CB) If it is articulated well. We are all different and all have different opinions......it's very interesting to read that. Even if I agree or disagree.
The thing is, where does it all end? Personally I'm offended when people attempt to curtail free speech, others are offended by slights on homosexuality, or colour, or race, or religion, or politics. Each and every one of us finds something that someone else says offensive - but truly the only way to combat it is to allow it be aired openly and to challenge it openly. Only then can we expose it for what it really is. (By the way, I might be wrong, but I got the impression that Sqad was talking politics - and if we try to stifle political views we are heading down a very slippery path).
is saying "I am anti-Semitic" political?
Happy New Year, naomi :o)

The post in question was an open admission from Sqad that he was Anti-semitic. He believes in the 'New World Order' conspiracy (where the Jews rule the world...........) and Sara3 was deeply offended by his comments. That he has a right to post them is moot, Sara3 admitted that she reported him and usually a single 'report' is not weight enough to get a post removed, however, perhaps the Ed agreed with Sara3 and pulled the 'offending' comments......
Possibly. Why not? Sqad said he has Jewish friends and he has employed Jewish people, so it seems to me his anti-Semitism is clearly not carried through on a personal level, and therefore it can only be political.
do you think he tells his Jewish "friends" that he holds anti-Semitic views? I doubt it.

I can't imagine a black person having dinner with a friend who says "I hate all blacks, but you're okay".
Sorry Jack, your post wasn't there when I posted mine. Happy New Year to you too. :o) Are you ok?

I think the Ed was wrong. As I said, gagging views we disagree with gives us no opportunity to change them.
Sqad didn't say he hates all Jews. You said that.
Sqad said he was anti-Semitic. I was shocked, and found a link that explains anti-Semitism.. the base line being just a basic hatred of Jews, and asked him if they were his views. to be honest, I thought he might play it down and say, "well no, but...."

but he confirmed that they were his views.

sara...this is the thread that I said agreed with my feelings.

////Antisemitism (also spelled anti-semitism or anti-Semitism) is prejudice against or hostility towards Jews,/////

You never gave me the chance to develop my argument...........Prejudice..YES Hostility or Hatred NO.

My friends (Jewish) and myself have better debates on anti Semitism than does AB
-- answer removed --
Sara, This is what Sqad confirmed.

//Firstly…..my initial response to the bulldozing of Auschwitz: …………////No it shouldn't be bulldozed.///

Yes I am anti-semetic…….my definition: : hostility toward or discrimination against Jews as a religious, ethnic, or racial group.

Do I distrust ALL Jews? No.

Do I distrust the Jews as a race……YES//

He also said that his views are probably irrational, but added that he's entitled to them, and he is.

Sara and Sqad, I really think there's a gross misunderstanding between you two. Come on, kiss and make up for the New Year, eh?. Waddaya say? Mwah!
The ill-feeling/hatred of jews is due to the bible outlining they were responsible for the death of Jesus Christ. Ardent christians might still perpetuate this hatred but they are misplaced emotions today.

We are more enlightened and know that past genocides were by misplaced fervers.
Sara posted a link NOK...but Sqad had a few answers removed.

yes, that was another classic!
