What is the symbolism of the little charms in the Christmas pudding? (I have some from Harrod's from years ago... a fat goose, a thimble, a horseshoe, silver spoon, wedding couple, pig, bag of money, cat etc.) We have always just guessed at somem sort of luck or fortune.. would love some more definitive clues if they're out there!

Silver was traditionally the metal of the moon and thought to bring great fortune and to be instrumental in foretelling the future, therefore the charms in Christmas puddings have always been silver.  The charms themselves may represent love ( a sharing spoon, a loving couple, etc) or domestic prosperity (eg thimble, fat goose, etc).
