Locate a Grave

Hi All, I do hope that you will be able to help me. I am currently starting my family tree and on my mothers side, everything is fine and going well. However, on my fathers side is a totally different story...

My dads mother died in a very mysterious fire when he was a baby, he was brought up by his grandfather. We are trying to locate her grave but obviously my dad doesnt know anything about her, her date of birth etc, only her name and where she lived when she died. We have tried contacting the archives in our area and they need to know these details, such as date and place of birth before helping us.

Is there anyway of locating her grave without these details, I have thought to phone all the churches in the area that she lived to see if they have records of her grave/date of death?

All we have is her name and approximate year of death...

My suggestion is to subscribe to a genealogical research site, e.g. Ancestry; Genes Reunited; My Family, to get the information that you have been asked for. The more information that you can provide, the greater will be your chance of success, and the less time you will spend in being pushed from pillar to post. A look through the birth and death records of a suitable website will tell you what you want to know. I used Genes Reunited to find a sister who was born and died before I was born. All I had to go on was a brief mention by my mother when I was about 11 years old. I had no written records of my sister at all, but I found her records in a fairly short time. So you could be lucky also. Best of luck.

if you provide a name there are a few on here who will be able to look on the bdm and ancestry sites for you

I don't know if they all do, but my local library provides family tree research help (e.g., they have subscriptions to things like electoral roles and census records on the Internet.)

When you have the death certificate you could go to the library and look up her obituary in the local newspaper, these often mention where the funeral service would be held.

If you know the parish, check for local history group and enquire there.
Check if local churches have a burial plan .. they usually do. Parish clerk would probably put you in touch with person having access to these records.

spalding cemetary is apparently indexed from 1874 to the 1970s, the index is in spalding local studies library.

it also lists in that link the various parishes and the local newspapers. Lincolnshire Family History Society has published the Monumental Inscriptions for several buriakl grounds in the area but you would need to purchase them.
