Are all phonographs wind up or does that only refer to portables?

When I was a lad (1950's or so) my parents had a gramophone (is that what you mean?) that was in a cabinet and stood on the floor. That was a wind-up model.
I think (and I stand to be corrected!) that a phonograph used waxed cylinders, as per Edisons original invention. http://chicagoist.com...007_04_phonograph.jpg
When 'discs' were used (ie records) they changed the name to gramophone to distinguish between the two. As all early gramophones were 'wind up', I can't see that there would have been a non wind up version of a phonograph.

In fact the terms "Phonograph" "Gramophone" and "Record Player" are interchangeable and referred to any record playing device, electric, electronic, or mechanical. There is still a magazine called "The Gramophone": http://www.gramophone-magazine.co.uk/
