Emotional break with old school

When my pals put my goddaughter's name down for my old prep school, I asked them if they would allow me to pay her school fees (being a fairly useless godmother in every other way).

So, after 9 years at the school, she is in J4, and about to move on to "big school".

My pals have invited me to the J4 leavers party. It will be my last contact with my old school (at which I started 41 years ago!!)

I'm feeling really emotional about that. I'm sure I will end up crying, pathetically, at the leavers party.

Adopt a kid from abroad ala Madonna or Jolie and send them to the school... problem solved.

Now to move on to the sticky issue of world peace... I'm in the mood to fix things today...

Is there any way that you can continue to be involved in the school. perhaps as a mentor for pupils or in a reunion commitee. I have to say that was a very generous gift. I wish my sons had such a lovely godparent.
I'm sure she will look back wistfully from her prison cell and think 'If only I'd made better use of my education'.

Sandy, LOL

I hope you'll forgive me if I don't answer that one ...

... public access website, minor, all that sort of thing !

Annie ...

It's only because I don't have any children or family of my own.

I don't want to be involved with the school any more. It was just nice to be back for a few years while my friends' daughter has been there.
oh just have a good cry and get over it (like the sympathy...)

i'm more concerned about the kind of mood China is in

has a public health warning been issued?
Ahh - sorry Jayne, picked you up wrongly there, I guess it is kind of like your little bird leaving the nest and that you feel you will have less of a connection with God daughter now that that particular link between you is gone.

Incidentally ... me? ... a mentor for school kids?

LOL LOL

Not many people would see that as a good idea.

Although ... I could teach them all to be good Blackjack players !
'Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, birght copper kettles and warm woolen mittens, brown paper packages tied up with strings, these are a few of my favourite things...'

Now who wants a big hug?

<nervous eye twitch>
I think you'd make a brilliant mentor..... x
JJ: What a kind lady you are! I wish I had such a friend like you to pay for my child's school fees!! Alas, we had to spend most of our income on their primary education (well, I'll re-phrase that, not 'had to' but we 'chose to'. No regrets as they've had a great start, just that we're poorer now!). It's my 2nd child's last year at prep school and although hubby is overjoyed not to have to pay school fees anymore, I think I'm going to really miss the school. I hope your friend and her daughter appreciates your generosity over these past years. I know if that was me, I would be forever indebted to you!
theres more like you needed in this world JJ

Thanks, scrummy ...

Although I was anxious to avoid the "indebted to me" bit.

They would have still sent her to the same school, but I said, basically ...

It was nice of you to ask me to be godmother. I'm a bit sh!t as a godmothers go, so could I maybe divi up for "x" 's school fees?

Anyway ... we're getting away from the main point, which is ...

Isn't it quite sad when you leave somewhere like an old school for the last time, when it feels like it's been a part of your life.
