They accept other people have different lifestyles, beliefs and goals as they do, but they seem to feel neither inferior or superior. Just genuinely worried, in some cases, about the long term future of their new friends.
They neither criticise nor appease. The Amish have a self-confidence and self-reliance I find enviable.
It is, I think, very brave of the parents and elders to give the youths the opportunity to see what is available out there to them. A sign of true love, rather than control.
The taliban would not be accepting of their youths experiencing a very different lifestyle for as many months or years it takes for a decision to be made.
The Amish seem to be self disciplined, self reliant and very family minded. We could do with a bit more of that in our culture, I think. (Compare and contrast to the families on Jeremy Kyle.)
I'm very much looking forward to the next episode. From the trailer it seems the Amish youths are somewhat shocked and distressed at the goings on in a night club. It will be good to see how they handle it.
