Ancient burial ground in Poole, Dorset?

I have been told that there was once an ancient burial ground in canford heath (poole, dorset) I cant seem to find any info on this so think i may be being had on but wondered if anyone could help me shed some light on this subject.

All I can find are some vague references to there being 'bowl barrows' in the area.
If you use the OS map option on multimap you get a good indication of known monuments in the area, which sems to be quite a few:

You can find earlier maps of these on www.old-maps.co.uk, but I find this once-useful site from ordnance survey has now become frustrating to use.

The 'tumuli' could date from the bronze age to the Saxon period so you'll ned t pop into the local library or museum to find out more.

thank you all for your responses... i found the reference to being a bowl barrow most interesting but wish there was more info when you dig deeper ah well the search has started now thanks to you all :0) have a great day!

Hi tweenyb, yes you are correct there is an ancient burial site on canford heath known simply as the barrow cemetery or the barrows.
scroll to page 177. there is even a person you contact with tel nr.
