Joseph Gobbels was the Step-Father of Harald Quandt, being Madga Gobbels son by her first marriage. Harrold served as a Lieutenant in the Luftwaffe and was the only family member to survive the war, becoming a leading West German industrialist during the 1950s and 1960s. Harald died in 1967, when his personal aircraft crashed over Italy. He was survived by five children.

Yes it was awful that the children were murdered by their parents, they should've been evacuated towards the west, but if the Russians had got hold of them one shudders to think what might have happened to them.

The Goebbels knew exactly what the Russians would do to their family. Joseph Goebbels said in the last months of the war that he hoped his family would be captured by the British. He said the Russians would rape and kill them, the Americans would just kill them, but the British would treat then decently. When it became obvious that the Russians would capture Berlin they had little choice. Magda said just before she killed her children that the world after National Socialism wouldn't be worth living in. At least the Russians and US didn't get hold of them.
