Our house has just been repainted and some board were removed just under the eaves of the house revealing stone Fleur du Lys.

Would anyone know if this has any particular meaning to a house? We thought it was originally a farm workers cottage, but this seems slightly decorative for such a house.

The house is, I believe Victorian.

Is (or was) the cottage part of a larger estate owned by a family who's family crest / coat of arms had a fleur de lis?

Hi Count,

is it in Berkshire, and is part of an Estate, now, not sure if it was when it was built, but the family's crest does not have these in them.

We also live near what used to be a work house/ mental hospital. Apart from that there was not much around where we live.

Looking at the recently drawn floor plans with next door it seems somehow as though this might have once been one large dwelling.
Don't forget that the Victorian age was a bit of an architectural rennaisance. Even the most humble buildings had some sort of ornate decoration.
