1911 Census
Can anyone tell me if there are plans to provide free access to the above or access via ancestry.co.uk? Where do you all access it as I am finding the 1911 website itself expensive ..... TIA

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.ancestry.co.uk have purchased a copy of the 1911 return for Englanmd and Wales and according to their site news updates they are worling hard at transcribing it. If their past efforts are anything to go by, they will opt for speed over accuracy but that just means we will need to report the errors more.
They already have the summary books transcribed, which you can search for free, as you can do on the 1911 dedicated site and on FMP, these are a useful way of narrowing down your options and eliminating and selecting original images to check, therefore hopefully avoiding wasted fees.
ancestry have not given a launch date, nor have they mentioned that their fees will probably rise to account for the purchase, transcribing and internet ready work the 1911 will have cost them, but they will no doubt stall the release of their 1911 version until their usual scheduled subscription price increase,
The good thing about it will be that if it is on ancestry there will be free access to the 1911 via your local library, which is a positive.
