I live near Torquay and wonder if there is any truth to a story I've heard which states that if Hitler had won the war he had plans to use the Osborne House Hotel as a base. It would be interesting to find out whether there was any truth in this. Thanks in anticipation.

A Hotel in Torquay? "Don't mention the war!"
It's wonderful to think he would choose his ops base for the quality of the afternoon tea and sea views....
several internet sites say he planned to make it his postwar HQ and ordered that it not be bombed. I don't know how correct they are.
Are you sure it was not Osbourne House on the Isle of Wight?

This had been home to Queen Victoria and I am sure Hitler would have loved to have lived in a house once lived in by a British monarch.
oh yes, I misread the question, I was answering along the same lines as VHG. It was Osborne House on the IoW he was said to have his eyes on.

Many thanks for your answers. Yes, it seems the IOW is the one. Basil Fawlty will be happy.
I thought it was Goering who had his eyes on becoming "Staatlicher Gouverneur" of the SouthWest
