loft ladder

I have a 3 stage metal loft ladder,when i lowered it today it came down on one side causing it to jam,after i managed to put back in the loft i niw find that as i try to lower it the 2 meatl spring that hold ot now come out and stop in being lowered

How do I fix it?
Probably going to have to get up into the loftspace using another ladder, then either remove the existing to be able to repair it in the relative comfort of your garage.
I know what you are on about but reckon it is impossible to explain in words how these things work.
