How to get rid of smell of varnish?

I used a polyeurothane varnish spray on an untreated pine bedside cabinet. The smell has been very strong.

I sanded down the cabinet and upon advice bees-waxed it. The smell did not improve so have removed the cabinet from the bedroom.

However the smell seems to remain in the room, causing me a nasty cough and eye irritation.

So far I have:

Left fans on in the room, left bowls of hot water + vinegar, used febreze and Pledge on other furniture, left windows open.

Experienced, informed ideas please! Many thanks

Partially informed: Onions cut into four and laid on plates in a freshly gloss painted room have helped with that smell in the past.
The higher the temperature, the quicker the smell will dissipate. Stand the cabinet outdoors in the sun, turning it from time to time. Get a 'Berger lamp' (or two) with non-scented oil and leave them burning in the room. This will eradicate the smell in the room.
A friend who got a polyurethane foam mattress topping said sliced onions worked very well also .
