Hi,

What is best for sealing bath sump? plumbers mate or silicone out of a caulking gun? Also, the cold feed to the bath is 15m, the hot is 22m. would it make a great difference if they were both 15m ? She who knows all says that it will be cold before it fills if we use 15m. on the hot feed?

thanks,
Percy.

Yes 22m. It provides a flow rate more suitable for drawing a bath of hot water before it goes cold

Sorry forgot your 1st question.I would use a caulking gun.
Plumbers mate, for the plug hole.
I'd say both 15m and 22m are more suited to something like a storm drains.....

22mm would be more suitable for bath pipes.
As a rule if you have plenty time on your hands and if you have a new bath and a new waste spigot (everything clean). It would be a good idea to fit the waste using sanitary silicone and leaving it overnight. But if you are fitting a new waste to an old bath, and you need to get on with the job, I always use plumbers mait. Either one is fine, it just depends on how much time you have.
If you already have a 22mm hot supply, and you reduce it down to 15mm, you are just creating a bottle neck in your supply. So 'she who knows' is exagerating, it will just take a little longer to fill.

Tell her to fill your bath and allow an extra five minutes before she serves your bathtime beer..!
I agree with Homer on this. Plumbers' Mait, or silicone if you can leave it overnight.
22mm will be gravity fed (roof tank), so very little pressure. Cold is 15mm (mains fed) so restricting the hot will mean taking a lot longer to fill.

Talking of Mait v Silicone ................ do Tony or Homer remember "paint & putty" .......... always worked well though ;o)
Paint and putty ..? Never heard of it .. showing your age now.
Is it something the Victorians used ?
