We are planning to install a new kitchen and would like to use glass tiles for the splashbacks. We have seen two tiles, one is 8mm thick and the other is just 4mm thick.
We prefer the shape of the 4mm thick tile (20cm x 10cm) however the 8mm tiles are just regular (10cm x 10cm). from a cost point of view they are exaclty the same price/m2.
Are the 8mm thick tiles any better than the 4mm think tiles? Should we compromise on the preferred shape of the tile in favour of a thicker tile?

Basically the 8mm are stronger. But, as your only using them as a splash back then the 4mm should be ok, they won't be bearing any weight.
I'd go for 8mm. Think about accidentally hitting the glass with a saucepan or dinner plate - can happen.
The thinner ones could be toughened or even laminated so don't assume they are not as practical. Why not ask the manufacturers.
